Cakes & Quilts

For Relief Society last week, I was asked to teach a cake decorating class. I made this pig cake for one of the examples. Wouldn't any kid love this!? I used strawberry whoppers, pink snowball cakes, jr. mints, and strawberry and chocolate frostings.

We also tied quilts for the humanitarian aid effort that our church (the LDS church) is always contributing to.

We enjoyed lots of other cakes, and so many ladies in our ward have such great talents! These cakes were not only beautiful, but delicious too!!!

Debra Knudsen made this cake...I think SHE should have been the one teaching the cake decorating class! Are you kidding me!? Gorgeous! With the Relief Society symbol on it!

Flower birthday cake

I made this cake for my Mom's birthday! I used a frosting recipe that I knew was not the best for cake decorating, but it was DELICIOUS! But I kinda like how it looks anyway:) I used cut up marshmallows for the flowers. I did the same thing with cupcakes a few years ago, you can see those adorable things HERE

Flower cupcakes!

I ADORE these cupcakes that I made a while back! They are SO easy, yet so dang cute! All I did was buy some large pink marshmallows and skittles, then I frosted my cupcakes with pink frosting, and cut the marshmallows into skinny slices with SCISSORS. (If you cut it with a knife, you won't get the petal shape). Then pop a skittle, berry, or any candy in the middle, and there you have it! Lovely!

Baby Cakes!

I made this cake for my friend's baby shower. And that same day, I found out that I AM PREGNANT!!! What are the odds!? With the way I am feeling, I think I am having a girl...I can't keep anything down! I think this must be what Hell is like. Laying by a toilet all day and night, puking...

Birthday Cakes!

This first cake I made, was for my Mom's birthday! I started out with a two layer chocolate swirl cake with chocolate frosting, and and then put pirouette wafer sticks around the outside, toasted coconut marshmallows around the top, and crushed wafers for the center! Then I tied a bow around it, and voila!

This second cake, I made for my sister in law. She had a Harry Potter themed birthday party! It was rad! I realize that this is not one of my best looking cakes, but it sure gave me arthritis, putting each dot of frosting on for his hair!! He kind of looks like he belongs in the Jackson 5 with that fro! What can I say, character cakes are not my forte.

Birthday cake!

My little man just turned one. {tear} I made him a little yoshi cake:) I baked the cake in a little custard dish, and it was just his size! I made the cake out of fondant though and I knew he wouldn't be able to rip into it easily, so I also made him one with just frosting:)
Both of his cakes. Happy Birthday, baby boy! I love you!!

My first Fondant cake!

I made this cake for my sister's 30th birthday! Her birthday is the day before Halloween, and she absolutely LOVES candy corns. So, I thought it would be appropriate to decorate it this way.:) It took a few hours to put together, and it is not perfect by any means, but I was excited about it nonetheless. And I think the candy corns give it just the right touch!:)
